Yakul release their debut video from debut EP release “Getting Late”

Yakul is an exciting neo-soul 4-piece based in Brighton. Influenced by the likes of J-Dilla, D’angelo and the Soulquarians, they put their own stamp on music they like so much. In a unique way, they mixed together thoughtful, soulful lyrics with deep grooves and jazz infused progressions.

Yakul released debut Getting Late EP in August this year. Album was promoted with two singles “Daydreaming” and “Blossoming”. Brighton’s band continues to support their forthcoming release with their third single, “Getting Late” with rapper and producer Louis IV. Since its release at the start of the month, tracks from the EP have picked up specialist radio support and plays from the likes of Gilles Peterson (6Music), Jamz Supernova (1Xtra) and KCRW in LA, as well as playlist spots at Spotify (Jazz UK, Soultronica) and Deezer (Soul to Chill).

They also drop their first music video to this song which you can watch below.

“‘Getting Late’ was written with the idea that it’d be played out in summer on the beach or at a festival or somewhere like that. It was great to do something that was more straight ahead while still keeping to the core of what we think our sound is. Mad love to Louis VI for smashing a verse on this too; he really took it to another level!”

Neo soul in style of D’angelo or Erykah Badu based on ambient synth, swinging hip-hop drums, jazzy chords, filled with summer haze and smooth jazz melodies. Ideal music for fans of Jordan Rakei and Tom Misch.

Band members:

James Berkeley – Vocals/Keys

Tom Caldwell-Nichols – Bass

Sam Hughes – Drums

Leo Utton – Guitar
