Big Crown Records drops the remix of Liam Bailey reggae banger “Champion” featuring Black Thought of The Roots
Big Crown Records drops the remix of Liam Bailey’s reggae banger “Champion” featuring Black Thought of The Roots. The original song "Champion" was first released in November 2019, with the announcement of signing Liam Bailey to the Big Crown Records label. The song as a whole album was beautifully produced by Leon Michels from El Michels Affair. This version features wordsmith and The Roots singer Black Though adding some extra verses. Massive dancefloor filler, connecting reggae, dub, soul, and hip hop with modern production, an instant classic.
Bailey, born and raised in Nottingham, England, the son of an English mother and Jamaican father got his early influences from his mom’s record collection. Bob Marley and Dillinger, Stevie Wonder, and The Supremes, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix would eventually shape the singer/songwriter we know today.

Amy Winehouse was a big fan of Liam's talent. Amy, after hearing Bailey music through a mutual friend, felt so connected with its stripped-back emotion, that she immediately made it her business to contact him with a view to putting it out on her own record label. The producer of her first album, Grammy-winning Salaam Remi (Nas, Fugees), produced Liam's debut album for Polydor.
The journey from conforming to major labels to this latest record has been a long one for Liam, and a bit of a struggle. But struggle may be the only way we truly grow and evolve. With a new clarity of purpose, sound, and life, Liam has found joy out of those struggles. And it's called "Ekundayo", which means "sorrow becomes joy" in Yoruba, a language spoken mostly in Western Africa.
