Song of the Day: Organic Pulse Ensemble – For All The Other Places

A Swedish one-man spiritual orchestra Organic Pulse Ensemble shares today an ethereal gem For All The Other Places, from the project's new album A Thousand Hands, released via Spanish record company 2 Headed Deer.

This album fuses the intensity of free jazz, with the meditative and mystical feeling of the spiritual approach of the genre. The lengthier timing of the tracks provides the musician the chance to explore different paths in terms of composition, on many occasions focusing on the music progression on each track, containing his perfectionist zeal and accepting the value of leaving some of the mistakes and rough edges which we consider to be a vital addition in terms of personality and originality to the work. Gustav Horneij aka Organic Pulse Ensemble keeps pushing the boundaries of the form by incorporating influences from ethio-jazz to eastern sounds, all of it in an amazing organic way that makes it hard to believe all the composition and performance come from a single artist.

Listen to Organic Pulse Ensemble new song For All The Other Places, from the project's new album A Thousand Hands:

Organic Pulse Ensemble is a band consisting of just one member Gustav Horneij, who plays saxophones, flute, trumpet, bass guitar, electric guitar, drums, percussion, synthesizers & keys, and multitracking every instrument in his home studio. He started out on turntables though, scratching and making beats. Through sampling old vinyl records from his father's collection, and starting to collect for himself, he developed a love of jazz, soul and funk. In his twenties he started incorporating live instruments into his beat-making, beginning with electric bass and a drum kit. Along with some friends, more instruments were added to the mix, and the hip-hop influence was somewhat obscured by that of Sun-Ra and labels like Black Jazz and Strata-East. Due mainly to geography the ensemble turned into a onesemble over time and in 2019 the project resulted in its first official release on the Urban Waves label.
