Song of the Day: Danger Mouse & Jemini The Gifted One - Brooklyn Bazquiat

Hip hop duo Danger Mouse & Jemini The Gifted One released a new single Brooklyn Bazquiat, from their long-awaited second studio album Born Again.

Danger Mouse and Jemini The Gifted One have teamed up once again to release their latest album, Born Again. The album is a sequel to their 2003 release, Ghetto Pop Life, and features ten tracks produced by Danger Mouse himself. Jemini is the lead vocalist on every song, with no featured artists on the album. Born Again was recorded in 2004 but was shelved for nearly two decades before finally being released on August 25th, 2023.

Ghetto Pop Life, the first collaborative studio album by Danger Mouse & Jemini, was released on Lex Records in 2003. It features guest appearances from Tha Alkoholiks, J-Zone, Prince Po, and The Pharcyde. In 2004, a reprint of the album with three additional tracks was released in the United States.

Danger Mouse is the stage name of Brian Joseph Burton, an American musician and record producer, who gained widespread recognition in 2004 with the release of his album The Grey Album, which combined vocal performances from Jay-Z’s The Black Album with instrumentals from The Beatles’ The White Album. He has worked with a variety of artists across different genres, including Beck, The Black Keys, Gorillaz, A$AP Rocky, Norah Jones, and CeeLo Green. He formed the band Gnarls Barkley with CeeLo Green and produced their albums St. Elsewhere and The Odd Couple. In 2009, he collaborated with James Mercer of the indie rock band The Shins to form the band Broken Bells; the band has released three albums since then, with Into the Blue” being the most recent one.

In 2005 he made a collaborative album with MF Doom The Mouse and the Mask under the name Danger Doom, released by the independent punk label Epitaph Records in the United States, and by Lex Records in the UK, the same records label that released Born Again. In 2022 he released another collaborative project Cheat Codes with The Roots emcee Black Thought - The Wicked Sound Hip Hop Album of 2022!
