Song of the Day: Kamasi Washington – The Garden Path
The saxophonist and composer Kamasi Washington debuts his new song The Garden Path, live on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon:
Kamasi appears on the show with his West Coast Get Down crew including his father Rickey Washington, Miles Mosley, Tony Austin, Cameron Graves, Ryan Porter, Ronald Bruner, and Brandon Coleman, but also Dontae Winslow, Dwight Trible, and Patrice Quinn.
The world feels turned upside down. There’s so much push and pull in every direction, from everyone you meet—no one knows what to think, who to believe, or how to approach life right now. No matter how smart you are, it’s hard not to feel blind, says Kamasi Washington of the song.
The song is Washington’s first new, original music in nearly a year, following up 2021 release of Sun Kissed Child, made for The Undefeated’s Music For The Movement series, and a cover of Metallica’s My Friend of Misery for the band's Blacklist compilation. In 2020, Washington released his Emmy and Grammy nominated score for Becoming, director Nadia Hallgren and Netflix’s documentary profiling First Lady Michelle Obama.
