Fresh sounds: Alex Hitchcock feat. midori jaeger - Wolf and Nina

London saxophonist and composer Alex Hitchcock presents Wolf And Nina, a first single featuring Midori Jaeger, lifted from his upcoming album Dream Band, due on the 19th of Nov via Barcelona-based label Fresh Sounds New Talent.

A Dream Band is Alex's new project featuring some of the best musicians that London can offer, with guest appearances from some US heavy-hitters saxophonist Chris Cheek (Bill Frisell, Charlie Haden), drummer Jason Brown (Kurt Rosenwinkel, Monty Alexander) and trumpeter David Adewumi (Dave Douglas). A London young jazz scene is represented by Cherise Adams-Burnett and Midori Jaeger on vocals, Deschanel Gordon, Noah Stoneman and Will Barry on piano, Jas Kayser and Shane Forbes on drums, Joe Downard, Ferg Ireland and Will Sach on bass, and Luisito Quintero on percussions. I wanted to create a snapshot of the strength and variety of musicians in London, and see how far different collaborators can stretch my music says the virtuoso musician.

Wolf And Nina features BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year Deschanel Gordon and multi-genre cellist/vocalist Midori Jaeger. I wrote this about the reassurance you get from having non-human companions in situations of stress. In this case my cats in the pandemic; their blissful ignorance to whatever’s going on in the human world, and their lack of change in behaviour being a comfort, said Alex. With Midori's lyrics touching on the strains of relationships, Wolf And Nina goes beyond the boundaries of jazz within compelling songwriting and ethereal atmospheres.
