Fresh Sounds: The Last Humanist - Beat Around The Bush

Composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Giannis Floros aka The Last Humanist released his second album I Don`t Want Nobody to Give Me Nothing on 10th December 2021 under Rational Culture Records.

A constantly morphing funk, breaks project with distinct and intriguing attitude created at the end of 2020 counting 2 albums already. The album was recorded by Giannis Floros at Naked Papa Studios in Thessaloniki, he played on that album on drums, bass guitar, electric guitar, keys and organ. The Last Humanist team up with friends to create raw instrumental funk music. Chris Lemonis on percussion, Gary Alesbrook on trumpet, Spencer Hattendorf and Christos Tsakiltzidis on saxophones, are amongst the musicians that contributed to the record. Also drum breaks have been used by bands like Tower of Power, Medeski Martin n Wood, The Fearless Flyers, Breakestra, and more. We can clearly see where the inspiration came from.

It's Groove-based funky instrumentals accompanied with pessimistic vocal samples taken from movies consists the sound of The Last Humanist. The dark side of the funk, as melancholic funky tunes blended with bluesy, jazzy guitar, organ, saxophone and trumpet solos. Based in Thessaloniki Greece where at the early 2010s there was a booming Reggae, Dub, Funk scene that influenced The Last Humanists style.
