Finnish composer Jimi Tenor announces his new album “Aulos” on Philophon Records with a new single “Afroeuropean”.
Finnish composer Jimi Tenor announces his new album “Aulos” on Philophon Records with a new single “Afroeuropean”. It’s the third song promoting his new LP, first one “Vocalize My Luv” came out in 2019 featuring Frafra gospel singers Florence Adooni and Lizzy Amaliyenga, the second one “Sugar and Spice” came in July 2020, as a perfect summer hit for Jazz, Boogie, Soul and Afro-Beat lovers.
"Aulos“ is Jimi Tenor's second album on Philophon. "Aulos“ is a woodwind instrument from ancient Greece - like the tenor sax is a woodwind instrument of modern times. Basically, the core crew is the same as on his Philophon debut „Order of Nothingness“: besides our Finnish singer and multi-instrumentalist, we have again the two drummers Ekow Alabi Savage from Ghana and Max Weissenfeldt from Germany, the latter of whom is as well the producer of „Aulos“. As the basic recordings were cut at Max’ former „Tonstudio Blütenring“ in Berlin-Kreuzberg, the finishing touch however happened at Philophon’s newly established „Joy Sound Studios“ in Kumasi, Ghana.
Watch the video to Jimi Tenor new song “Sugar and Spice”, the single from his forthcoming new album “Aulos”:
Jimi Tenor is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, bandleader, and producer. Since 1994, the Finnish native's work had ranged across the modern music genre spectrum. Though he began recording with Jimi Tenor & His Shamans in the '80s, his solo career in electronic dance music with Sähkömies -- techno to be precise -- in 1994, put him on the international map. His sound has continued to evolve, embracing numerous strains of jazz (he's a world-class baritone and tenor saxophonist and flutist) and African music traditions. He has recorded and produced funk and neo-soul with, global jazz with Abdissa Assefa and, Afro-beat drum legend Tony Allen, 21st century Afrobeat with Berlin's Kabu Kabu, and a dub/metal/funk fusion outing with Hjálmar, Iceland's premier reggae outfit, and recorded in collaboration with members of the Five Corners Quintet (including Timo Lassy, Teppo Makynen and Jukka Eskola).
„Like the name of the album "Aulos" suggests I wanted to feature flute quite heavily on it. I love complicated melodies and structures, so there are a couple of songs where went just for it. Of course the core of the album is groove based music with African-style bass lines“, Jimi said.
