Makaya McCraven shares “Mak Attack” and “Beat Science” from his new album “Universal Beings E&F Sides”

Makaya McCraven shares two new singles “Mak Attack” and “Beat Science” from his forthcoming album “Universal Beings E&F Sides” on International Anthem. It’s Makaya follow up to his critically-acclaimed 2018 release “Universal Beings”. New LP presents fourteen new pieces of organic beat music cut from the original sessions, prepared and produced by Makaya as a soundtrack to the “Universal Beings” documentary film, directed by Mark Pallman.

26 minutes long “making off” documentary follows Makaya to Los Angeles, Chicago, London and New York City for a behind the scenes look into the making of the artists breakthrough album, taking the viewer through the story of Makaya's life, his process and the community of musicians that helped bring this project to life.

Director Mark Pallman has shared the first chapter of the documentary, titled “Strangers In The City”. “Strangers In The City” feature Makaya McCraven's new song “Mak Attack”, the first single from his forthcoming album “Universal Beings E&F Sides”. Watch the video below:

"Universal Beings" was recorded at four sessions in New York, Chicago, London and Los Angeles, and features some of the best "new" jazz players from those cities: Brandee Younger, Tomeka Reid, Dezron Douglas, Joel Ross, Shabaka Hutchings, Junius Paul, Nubya Garcia, Daniel Casimir, Ashley Henry, Josh Johnson, Jeff Parker, Anna Butters, Carlos Niño and Miguel-Atwood Ferguson - all of whom feature on "Universal Beings E&F Sides".

Makaya McCraven released in February 2020 “We’re New Again: A Reimagining by Makaya McCraven” on XL Recordings, an album reworking Gil Scott Heron's final album “I’m New Here”. Recently he took part in new project called The Chicago Experiment run by Ropeadope Records. It’s based on the same idea as “The Philadelphia Experiment” from 2001. This record focuses on Chicago, digging into the roots that shaped Chicago’s musical identity, exploring then sound and incredible musicians building this scene. Project features Greg Spero, Marquis Hill, Darryl Jones, Irvin Pierce, Joel Ross, Jeff Parker and Makaya McCraven. The first song “Maxwell Street” you can listen on our The Wicked Sound 2020/07/4 Jazz Funk Soul Reggae Beats weekly playlist.
